Examination procedures of the iconostasis and icons of the church of the Holy Cross (located inside the Tower). Preparation of a study for the submission of an application for approval of the conservation of the iconostasis and icons.
This seminar is organized with the participation and responsibility of the team of the Benaki Museum Conservation Laboratory, in the hospitable space of Pyrgos Bazaios.
The team consists of:
- Stergios Stassinopoulos, head of the Benaki Museum laboratory
- Vassilis Paschalis, conservator of the Benaki Museum
- Lenia Farmakalidou, conservator of the Benaki Museum
- And with the participation of:
- Ioannis Varalis, lecturer in Byzantine Archaeology at the University of Thessaly
- Perus Bechlis, conservator of the Benaki Museum
- Newer Monuments of Epirus
Care of stay in the Tower, accommodation, transportation: Georgios Martios Vazaios, Head of the Cultural Organization AION.
This seminar is the first in a series (to be continued in the coming years) on the conservation of the iconostasis and the icons of the Church. It is addressed to graduating students of conservation schools and certainly to graduate conservators.
The language of the seminar for this year will be Greek only, while for the following ones English is also planned.
During the seminar, all widely used methods of research (using appropriate equipment), documentation, design and electronic recording of the condition of the iconostasis and the icons will be developed, as well as a first assessment of them from the point of view of art history.
